Update for Elementary School Lunch Options – Individually Wrapped PB&J Uncrustables Available This Fall
Dear ESD Elementary School Families,
The Child Nutrition program is excited to share an upcoming change to our elementary school meal offerings. Beginning this fall, September 8, 2026, we will be introducing individually wrapped/prepackaged peanut butter and jelly Uncrustable sandwiches as Option 2 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, replacing our previous sun butter sandwiches and bagel packs on those days.
This item has been successfully served at our secondary schools and is being added to the elementary menu to provide a familiar, popular choice. Because many students already bring peanut butter and jelly sandwiches from home, and with school meals available at no cost to all students, we want to ensure this option is accessible to everyone in the cafeteria.
Student Safety Is Our Priority
We understand the seriousness of peanut allergies and want to reassure you that robust safety protocols are in place to protect students with documented allergies:
- Direct Notification: Families of students with documented peanut allergies are being directly notified of this menu update.
- Safe Meal Planning: Students with peanut allergies will continue to be provided with safe, allergen-free meal options. Uncrustables are individually prepackaged and served sealed in their original packaging.
- Food Handling Procedures: Our nutrition services team strictly follows standard food safety and allergen management protocols.
- Staff Training: All food service staff receive annual training in allergy awareness
- Clear Labeling: Peanut-containing items will be clearly identified and remain sealed in their packaging for selection. Please note that this is the only peanut item offered in our meal program.
