Important Update: District Technology Network Disruption

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we head into the final weeks of the school year, I want to provide an important update
regarding the recent technology disruptions across our district. Last week, our network was
targeted by a cyberattack involving ransomware. Our IT team immediately activated security
protocols, shutting down our systems to isolate the threat and protect our data. This is an ongoing
criminal investigation so we had to wait until things are at a certain point before we can formally
discuss the situation with everyone.

We are working directly with cybersecurity experts and our legal team to resolve the issue. That
team will work with appropriate law enforcement. At this point in time we have not paid a
ransom. Also, at this time we do not have evidence that any student or family personal
information has been compromised. The criminals did not access Skyward or student emails. Our
Google network and student Chromebooks were not impacted. We safely brought these systems
back online as soon as we could confirm they were safe. We are continuing to investigate this
thoroughly with the help of our cybersecurity partners. Once the investigation is complete,
notifications will be sent out if any personal data was compromised from our local servers. The
attack was focused on our servers and computers that run Microsoft software. Cybersecurity
experts are inspecting every machine to ensure no hidden threats remain before we bring the rest
of our systems back online. This is a slow and deliberate process, but it is necessary to ensure our environment is 100% secure. We anticipate that everything on our network will be fully
functional in the next couple of days.
