On Friday, January 16, our school community came together for a special assembly to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We were fortunate to have our Physical Education teacher, Mr. Teasley, share an inspiring message with our students about the importance of kindness, courage, and the meaning behind our recent day of observance.
During the assembly, students learned how Dr. King used his words and peaceful actions—rather than his fists—to change unfair laws. We discussed how he led with a heart full of love and demonstrated incredible perseverance and grit, even when things were difficult.
We are now challenging our students to "Be the Change" right here at Valley View. We’ve introduced three simple ways they can keep Dr. King’s dream alive every day:
-
Be Curious: Get to know people for who they are on the inside. Ask questions and learn their stories!
-
Be Kind: Look for those who might feel left out or lonely and include them in your play or conversation.
-
Be Brave: Have the courage to stand up for others if they are being treated unfairly. Remember, being brave also means knowing when to ask an adult for help.
Dr. King’s dream continues through the actions of our children. We are so proud of the way our students are working together to make Valley View a place where everyone feels loved, included, and respected.
